Foundation Sizing & Fit Guide

The legs are your problem. The fit is handled.

Cycling sizing gets confusing quickly because the same letter can mean very different things between brands. Foundation is designed around a firm, performance fit, so the safest way to choose a size is not to copy whatever is printed on the jersey already hanging in your wardrobe.

Measure your body. Use the chart. Decide how close you want the fit. Much less exciting than guessing, significantly more useful.

How Foundation is meant to fit

Foundation garments are designed for a firm, performance race fit. That means close to the body, clean through the torso and legs, and intended to make sense once you are in a cycling position rather than standing perfectly upright in front of a mirror wondering why bib straps feel short.

If you prefer a closer performance fit, stay toward the snug end of your measurement range. If you want more room, use the larger size where your measurements overlap.

If you are between sizes

THRONE's current Foundation guidance is simple:

  • For a snug, performance fit: choose the smaller size.
  • For a more relaxed fit: choose the larger size.

Do not size down purely because optimism is free. Use your measurements first.

How to measure

All Foundation sizing is based on body measurements in centimetres, not the measurement of a jersey or bib laid flat.

  • Chest / Bust: measure around the fullest part, keeping the tape level under the arms.
  • Waist: measure around the narrowest part of your natural waistline.
  • Hip: measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.

Take measurements in light clothing. Keep the tape snug but not tight. If someone can help, even better. Apparently teamwork is useful outside a paceline too.

Jersey fit: what you should look for

A cycling jersey is supposed to feel different standing up than it does on the bike. The useful check is whether it sits close without making normal breathing or movement a project.

Look for a clean fit across the shoulders and torso, with no obvious excess fabric once you are leaning forward. The zipper should sit naturally rather than being pulled under strain.

If your measurements sit clearly inside one size, start there. If you overlap two sizes, use the smaller/larger guidance above based on how close you want the garment to feel.

Bib fit: do not judge it like shorts

Bibs are shaped to be worn on the bike. The straps can feel firmer while you are standing upright and settle once you hinge forward into a riding position.

The important measurements are waist and hip. You want the bibs to sit securely without obvious folding or movement, with the chamois held in the correct position rather than shifting around during the ride.

Can your jersey and bib sizes be different?

Use the relevant measurements for each garment rather than forcing your body into one matching letter. A rider's chest, waist and hip measurements do not always land in the same size band.

Choose the jersey from your upper-body measurements and the bibs from the measurements that matter to the bib fit. Matching labels are less important than matching the rider.

Still not sure?

Send THRONE your measurements before guessing. Sizing questions are cheaper than return postage and considerably less annoying than spending a first ride thinking about your waistband.
