THRONE Sportswear brand story Journal cover image

Samford, Brisbane. Where the brand started and where the product still has to work.

THRONE Sportswear began in Samford, Brisbane, with a simple problem: endurance athletes were being asked to choose between products that felt disposable and products priced as status objects. The answer had to be built through the product, the process and the community around it.

Started in Samford

THRONE Sportswear was founded by Harry Broad in Samford, Brisbane, in the first quarter of 2023. The idea was not to build another logo around generic endurance apparel. It was to create athlete-first cycling and triathlon products that could earn trust through fit, comfort, honest development and the way the brand behaved around the people wearing it.

Samford matters because the brand began in the same environment in which its products are still expected to work: Queensland heat, early starts, long training roads and a community where athletes at very different levels often share the same session.

Built for the ones who show up

THRONE's current mission is to build athlete-first endurance apparel and custom club kit that people genuinely trust: race-grade performance, dialled comfort and a look that says who you are, without the overpriced status tax.

That definition of an athlete is deliberately wider than a podium. It includes the professional, the club rider, the first-time racer and the person rebuilding a routine one session at a time. Ambition changes shape. The habit of showing up does not.

What THRONE makes

Today, THRONE's active work sits across cycling, triathlon and custom club apparel. Foundation is the everyday cycling entry point. Valor and Valor² are the core training and racing systems. Paragon represents the sharper race-day end. Custom Studio takes the same product thinking into clubs, squads and charity projects.

Running, swimming and casual-apparel concepts exist internally, but they are not yet active ranges. The story here stays focused on what THRONE is genuinely building now.

Athletes inside the development loop

Product development follows a practical loop: concept, sampling, athlete feedback, revision, manufacturing, factory-side quality checks and launch. The athlete is not added at the end for a photograph. Fit feedback is expected to change the product.

That process is visible in the details. Penny Slater's trisuit feedback identified torso and arm pressure, a short zipper and a chest material that needed more breathability. James Corbett's testing highlighted strong shoulder fit and zipper quality while still requesting a change in zipper direction. Those comments are useful because they are specific enough to act on.

The lessons that changed the brand

THRONE's earlier Phase 2.0 launch did not deliver the result the team wanted. Stock delays killed momentum, the pre-sale structure placed too much pressure on the launch and a bib print became too transparent under stretch. The easy version of the story would hide that. The useful version turns it into operating discipline.

The lessons became non-negotiable: product must be ready, opacity and fit need testing, quality control needs evidence and community has to exist before the product is asked to carry everything. Foundation is the first range built directly around those lessons.

Community is a product channel, not a decoration

THRONE has grown through athletes, clubs and events as much as through product pages. UQ Cycling Club, community teams, charity projects and athletes such as Richelle Hill and Zahn Spies give the brand a record that can be documented over time rather than reduced to one campaign.

The strongest content has followed the same pattern. Founder-led CEO Diaries performed because the build was visible and human. The product could look premium while the voice admitted the caffeine bill, the small team and the work still unfinished. That contrast is part of THRONE.

The next chapter

The next stage begins with Foundation: a repeatable everyday cycling system launching in September 2026. Valor² continues the progression toward a more race-led cycling capsule. Custom Studio keeps expanding the club and team side without allowing it to replace the wider brand identity.

THRONE is not finished enough to pretend it has every answer. It is far enough in to know what it wants to protect: athlete-first truth, trust, progression, identity, premium execution without status pricing, disciplined simplicity and a community built around the people who keep turning up.
